Music Mondays- Marco Polo and Torae “Double Barrel” Album Review
AKA George Bush don’t fuck with blacks, Torae don’t fuck with wack.
So at the risk of full disclosure, in case your new to the Flud blog, we fuck with Marco Polo and Torae here at Flud(pause). Also the management behind the project, Theo Bark is the homey who was around since the genesis of Flud. I’m still gonna hit you guys with that pure unadulterated real.
This albums trash. Total shit. Or as they say in England “shite”.
Just playing- even if that was the the truth, I wouldn’t hit you with that much of the real because Torae could probably break my jaw with a dirty look(pause? I guess?).
Seriously though- this album is really dope. Its got the classic formula- crazy beats, dope scratching, sick lyricism and flows, just enough guest appearances. I hate when people say “this is like Hip-Hop in 94″ or some bullshit like that. This doesn’t sound like a dope album from 94, this shit sounds like a dope album made in 09. Yes, its got scratches on hooks. Yes, it was produced by only one producer. However, no, it doesn’t sound like one of the best albums of 94, it sounds like the best album in 09. There are literally no skipworthy tracks, the energy of the album starts banging with some words from Primo and just moves from there and every track gets bodied.
Every track is raw brooklyn energy, except at the end of the album, the album winds down with some introspective words about the struggles of just being a dope rapper, being a dope producer and in general, actually caring about the art of Hip-Hop. Remember when it used to be cool to give a fuck about Hip-Hop? When people loved it, and did it because they loved it? Remember when Jay-Z said “I’m from where niggas pull your cards and argue all day about who’s the best MC, Biggie, Jay-Z or Nas”?
That’s more the message about this album to me- its always refreshing and dope to hear hardcore, NYC Hip-Hop, that doesn’t sound like its stuck in 94 in anyway, except in the way that the people involved with making the album still love the shit they’re doing. I highly recommend copping this album, its really the best album of the year so far for my money.

Donald Glover is the FUNNIEST dude on the Internet. Word.
I’m not gonna even act like I know this dude, but his skits on derrickcomedy.com are as funny as it gets. The Source magazine did a cool interview with him. Check a few of his skits below and more here:
